Array Junction Box- A Safety Mechanism For Solar Modules

The solar modules or photovoltaic system works immensely as they use sunlight and then generate a powerful source of energy such as direct current electricity and so on. As we know the installation of solar panel has been executed in wider area thus also enhances the most chances for transients and short- circuits etc.  To eliminate this menace, Array Junction Box is cascaded along with the photovoltaic strings.

An Array Junction Box (AJB) which is used to connect along with solar modules in parallel connection to provide the protection against surges. There are two boxes first is 4 in 1 out with PV SPDs and the another one is 4 in 4 with PV SPDs.

There are various components in array junction box that generate a protective shelter to photovoltaic systems such as Enclosure, photovoltaic fuses, surge protection device, isolator and cables.

The availability of enclosure is possible in numerous materials. Thus, this is foolproof system that doesn't get affected through fire and water.


The photovoltaic fuses have been implanted in the array junction boxes to protect the solar modules against fault current.

Surge protection devices can be connected or pluggable in the same box diminish the effect of transients and preserve the system from short-circuits.

Isolators is an effective solution that works for switches.

  • Voltage Bearing Capacity

The Array junction box having the total output capacity to bear the high fault current. Basically, it holds each string hold some current to provide high output.

  • Ingress protection
The protection degree of the array junction box stands for IP 65, IP66 and IP 67 with the polycarbonate enclosure material that serve better connectivity.

The impeccable property of the array junction box is that with the connectivity of heat sink diode it creates the reversal flow for blocking the current. This device is also known as DC distribution box.
